After his brother’s death, Robert Kennedy remained in Lyndon Johnson’s cabinet for nine months. He then left to run for the U.S. Senate from New York. On November 3, 1964 he was elected and prepared to return to Washington.

Typed Letter Signed as Senator-elect, New York, November 17, 1964, to Clifton. “On November 22 at 9:00 A.M., Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthews Cathedral, Washington, in memory of President Kennedy. I wanted you to know in case you might want to attend.”
