Autograph Letter Signed, on letterhead of the United States Civil Service Commission, where he worked at the time, July 15, 1889. “My dear Sir: I was very glad indeed to get your letter; you understood my motives exactly. I hold myself personally indebted to you for having given me the chance to subscribe, and permit me to assure you of my belief that you are rendering a great public service by what you are doing.” Very good, signed in full. Roosevelt’s personal letters were always full of effusive praise for the recipient.
