William Fouts bought and paid for a tract of land in Ohio, in section 3 of township 12, “in range one, “west of a meridian line drawn from the drawn from the mouth of the Great Miami River.”
Document signed by Madison as president and Monroe as secretary of state, Washington, April 15, 1812, granting the land to “William Fouts, his heirs and assigns forever.” The form of this document is different than the one normally seen.
The War of 1812 was just two months away.
