After his service, Taylor, a Virginian, was a doctor and listed as such in the Virginia Museum of History & Culture. He may have been acquainted with Jefferson before his appointment, but he certainly was afterwards. Both Jefferson and Taylor, along with James Madison, were on the first University of Virginia Board of Commissioners.
