Sold – Jacqueline Kennedy Appreciates the Continued Kindness and Generosity of JFK’s Former Military Aide, Years After the Assassination

She thanks Ted Clifton for bringing happiness to her son, John, Jr.

Maj. Gen. Chester "Ted" Clifton was senior military aide to President Kennedy and was in almost constant touch with both the President and First Lady during their time in the White House. After the assassination he sought to assist Mrs. Kennedy any way he could, and remembered her and her family even as time moved on.

Typed Letter Signed, August 1, 1966, to Clifton, who had sent a gift to John-John. “I can only say that I wish you could have seen the expression on John's face when we arrived at Hyannis and he first saw his new tent. He was so surprised and excited and kept insisting that he would never sleep any place else. I can never thank you enough for bringing such happiness to John – and in fact to all the Kennedy children – for due to your kindness and thoughtfulness they now have a present which will bring them so much pleasure all through the summer months. I do hope you are well and I will see you before too long.” This letter comes right from the Clifton files and has never been offered for sale.
