Christmas 1941 was a somber one in the White House, with the U.S. just 18 days into World War II, the nation mobilizing and Winston Churchill visiting to plan war strategy. Under the circumstances, as gifts to the White House staff, the first family decided that something simple would be best. They gave signed photographs of the President and First Lady.
Signed photograph. An 8 by 10 inch photograph showing Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, with the printed inscription “Christmas 1941,” signed by both. With just one exception, these 1941 photographs are the only ones authentically signed by the two that we have seen, and it is a rare occasion when one turns up.
