Many of our clients choose to have us help frame their historical documents. One such recent project involved a historical document signed by Napoleon Bonaparte, a very good letter, which the new owner wanted to frame with an image of Napoleon. We supplied this image.
There are several elements to a frame, and this project illustrates them well. The framer recommended that both the reproduced painting of Napoleon and the letter have their own golden frames within a frame. The letter was floated, meaning it rises completely above the matting behind it. The matting is a dark burgundy, which lends gravity and contrast to the letter, and it has a cloth appearance, which gives it texture. The frame itself is beaded and gold. The product is beautiful and matches the document it safely houses.
